| Name of Hotel: | Ming Yuan Hotel, 3 star |
| Comments about Hotel: | Nice clean spacious room with tea making facilities. Nearly all the staff spoke only chinese. They were very helpful and pleasant. |
| Office or Orphanage: | Guangxi Hong Kong Mother's Love Orphanage |
| Sights to See in this city: | Many parks which were really nice. The Department Stores. Street markets. |
| Baby supplies can be purchased at: | Department Stores (we brought our own) |
| Places to eat we liked: | The eating facilities in the hotel were not great and their idea of a westren breakfast was interesting. The congee was nice but the egg was served religously each day with edgeless toast. We ate at the local restuarants which was a very interesting and pleasant experience. You point out the dishes at the various booths/stalls and they stamp your card which has your table number on it. The dishes are then brought to your table. |
| Things you ought to know while staying here: | Very hot in September. It was 35 degrees C (95 F) when we arrived in the evening at 7.30pm. The traffic can get jammed for long periods of time especially if the local lottery is sizable. It was amazing to see the many mopeds and other ways of transport going this way and that. The staff at the Orphanage were excellent as were the people at China Travel Service who organised our China itinary. It was usual for the kids to be fostered out after a short time at the orphanage ( approx. month or so). They return monthly for a medical checkup.Hence when you do meet your child for the first time do expect the child to have a strong bond with the foster mother and that the first few days will be a mixture of grief and joy all round! |
