Wuhan (White Rose Hotel)

City: Wuhan
Province: Hubei Prov
Month/Year of Travel: August, 2000
Travel Route in China:
Name of Hotel: White Rose Hotel
Comments about Hotel: The White Rose Hotel is very modern, clean, and well equipped to assist adoptive parents. It was built in 1997, 249 rooms, and according to their sales manager, 60% of their business is with adoptive parents. Our room was clean and neat, the air conditioner worked well (thankfully, because it was very hot!), and the service from all hotel staff was efficient and friendly. Facilities include indoor swimming pool (with stacks of baby floats available), billiards, beauty salon (hair, nails, facials, massage). The fitness room is very limited - plan to take a break from working out! Only one weight machine, and an antique stationary bike.
Office or Orphanage: Our daughter is from Yangxin, a few hours from Wuhan, so we did not see her orphanage.
Sights to See in this city: Yellow Crane Tower
Baby supplies can be purchased at: The department store, about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Everything from shoes (we bought some great shoes here), sippy cups, snacks, toys, clothing.
Places to eat we liked: We ate in the hotel, at the Rose Cafe. There are two other restaurants in the hotel, a Chinese and a Korean restaurant, but they were more formal and not as comfortable with a baby. The Rose Cafe has plenty of high chairs, and the chef suggested the "baby special" the first night we had our daughter (pureed vegetables - she loved it!). Breakfast buffet was included in the hotel rate, we usually skipped lunch, and often had the dinner buffet for a very reasonable $10.00 US per person. The a la carte menu was good, too, western & eastern selections.
