Nanchang (Gloria Plaza)

City: Nanchang
Province: Jiangxi
Month/Year of Travel: January 2006
Travel Route in China: Connecticut to Hefei (several flights) to Nanchang (train) to Guangzhou (flight)
Name of Hotel: Gloria Plaza
Comments about Hotel: Rooms are light in color and very clean. Beds are very hard. The hotel is conveniently located. You can walk to many stores and restaurants easily. The rooms can be hot in winter, but the windows open if you need some fresh air. Staff is courteous and pleasant, and will try to accommodate your needs.
Office or Orphanage: Nanchang SWI
Sights to See in this city: Tengwang Pavilion, Pedestrian shopping area a few blocks from the hotel (can walk) with many great stores, including a place where you can buy much more beautiful silk qipao dresses for your children than in Guangzhou. Also fun to take a trip to the Nanchang Wal-Mart.
Baby supplies can be purchased at: Guide will take you to a grocery store not far from hotel if you wish.
Places to eat we liked: The "coffee shop" in the lobby has a good breakfast buffet, but I did not care for their lunches and dinners. There are several local restaurants within walking distance that have delicious food much less expensive than the hotel. We had crispy Beijing duck in one of them that was outstanding! If you miss American food terribly, the Pedestrian shopping area has a McDonalds, and the Wal-Mart has a Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Things you ought to know while staying here: Of all the cities I have visited in China, I liked Nanchang the best. The people are friendly and welcoming, and very down-to-earth. I felt at home when I was there.
