Chongqing (Wanyou Conifer Best Western)

City: Chongqing
Province: Sichuan
Month/Year of Travel: December 1999
Travel Route in China: Hong Kong to Chongqing to Guangzhou to Hong Kong
Name of Hotel: Wan You Kang Nian Hotel (Wanyou Conifer Best Western)
Comments about Hotel: Nicer hotel (rooms needed some freshening, new paint, etc. but were very clean and neat). Hotel provided cribs and hot pots. Very good and quick laundry service. Fax and email services available. Telephone calls from room were fairly inexpensive. Staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. Cable TV with several English speaking stations.
Office or Orphanage: Chongqing Children's Welfare Institute. Did not see orphanage.
Sights to See in this city: People's Hall, Zoo, General Stillwell Museum, Chaotianmen Square (where the Jialing River and the Yangtze Rivers merge).
Baby supplies can be purchased at: The Parkson Department store, across a side street from the hotel. Diapers, formula, baby cereal as well as bottled water, soft drinks and snacks.
Places to eat we liked: Hotel guests were entitled to a free breakfast buffet. It had a large selection of Western as well as Asian foods to choose from and was quite good. The service was excellent.
Things you ought to know while staying here: The hotel's manager is an American from the San Francisco Bay area. He will go out of his way to make sure that your needs are accommodated.
