FCC Chapters and Local Contacts |
Last modified 5/11/09
Families with Children from China is a network of parent support groups
in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. While some of the
chapters listed below are formally organized organizations with by-laws
and boards of directors, others are less structured groups of families who
support one another with a variety of activities.
Virtually all FCC chapters share the following three goals: To support
families who've adopted in China through post-adoption and Chinese culture
programs; To encourage adoption from China and support waiting families;
To advocate for and support children remaining in orphanages in China. FCC
chapters generally organize some or all of the following activities:
newsletters, membership directories, family picnics and pot-luck suppers,
celebrations of Chinese festivals and holidays, pre-adoption information
meetings, playgroups, Chinese language and culture classes for children,
parent speakers.
Forming a New FCC Chapter
If your state or region does not have a chapter of FCC, we encourage
formation of local chapters of Families with Children from China and look
forward to a day when the United States is dotted with FCCs. Our
guidelines are few:
- That FCC chapters be open to all families who've adopted children of
Chinese origin, regardless of route of adoption, religion or marital
status of the family, or country of origin of the child (FCC has members
whose Chinese children have come from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and even the
USA in addition to the People's Republic of China).
- That FCC chapters be non-profit, volunteer, parent support
organizations:
- That FCC chapters be independent of individual adoption agencies or
facilitators.
As long as your chapter conforms to these guidelines, you are allowed to
consider yourself a chapter of FCC.
To list a new chapter of FCC here, please contact the webmaster,
Nathan DeWitt so that the
information can be posted with the next update to this site. New
chapters are indicated with this symbol:
.
If you have corrections or updates to an existing listing, these can be
sent directly to: cfd-pipeman@comcast.net
. Please note that with over 100 chapters and subchapters, we will not be
able to post dates etc for specific events. Effective 2/02, the month and
year of the last update will be listed in small font e.g. (2/02)
for each chapter. Those listings without a date were sent in before 2002
and may or may not be current.
The Map at below is divided into
"Click-able Regions"
to help you quickly locate Chapters nearest to you. (For "text
only" browsers there are linked regions and states listed below. Note
that states that do not have any chapters listed are shown in italic
text.)

and first-person stories -- usually 24 pages or more per issue -- about
adopting in China; helping children adjust to their new lives and
families; nurturing children at home and in school and local community;
connecting with Chinese and Chinese-American resources; and overall
thriving as international adoptive families. Cost is $20 for the four
issues of the publication year. To subscribe, send your name, address,
phone number, e-mail address, and check made out to Ruth Laseski
(please, NOT FCC-Texas), to Ruth at 4502 Elm St., Bellaire, TX 77401. If
you want to see a list of some of the articles included in past issues,
e-mail at Ralaseski@aol.com.
Other questions, feel free to e-mail or phone Ruth at 713-663-6714.
FCC-Texas is a newsletter, not an organization per se, and subscriptions
to FCC-Texas DO NOT automatically hook you into a local family support
group. To connect with a family support group, contact one of the
persons listed below under "Contacts for Local Support Groups."
Some of the local support groups also have local newsletters dedicated
to or emphasizing local community events of interest. Please note that
subscriptions to FCC-Texas are paid independent of any dues that might
be collected by some local support groups. That is, if desired, you can
join a local group without subscribing to FCC-Texas, and vice versa.

Beijing
- Formed in 1999, FCC China (Beijing) comprises families from
throughout the world who have adopted children from China and are living
and working in China with their adopted children. We meet periodically
for holiday events, special events, and just to have some fun. Families
currently involved in FCC China are from: US, Canada, Australia,
Switzerland, England, Finland, and Belgium. We welcome all pre- and
post-adoption families to participate in our programs. Contact person:
Jane Liedtke (Founder of Our Chinese Daughters Foundation)
janeliedtke@yahoo.com
Telephone: 6248-1268 or 13601001154 in China. FCC Beijing will not
contact orphanages or the CCAA in pre-adoption situations unless they
are incredibly unique such as in the case of special needs adoptions.
FCC China families are living and working in China for various reasons -
on corporate assignments, teaching, missionary work, government
assignments and the like. As such, our membership is very dynamic and
changes annually depending on who is living here at any point in time.
We are happy to assist when there are medical concerns and emergencies
while in China or any way your family may need support while in China.
