These web pages contain average monthly weather data for 48 cities in China from every province except Hainan Province. We extracted information from the dataset for the period from 1951 to 1988 where the data are of high quality. The information was compiled from archive data maintained at the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center, Dept. of Energy, located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Your tax dollars at work. The original data were contributed by: Tao Shiyan, Fu Congbin, Zeng Zhaomei, and Zhang Qingyun of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. Thanks to Scott Dennis, father of Grace for processing and compiling the data into an easily readable form, HTML coding by Jim Weaver
The values in the tables are the average values for each month. The actual weather can and often does exceed these average values on any given day. The intent is to provide travelers with a general idea of the type of weather to expect during their trip to China.
The data are sorted into a list of provinces here. Below that list is a list of the 48 individual cities in China for which we have compiled data.
Similar information for cities in the United States can be found at two other sites: The National Weather Service; San Francisco, or from the Climate Diagnostics Center, NOAA. The NWS site has data in tables for about 300 cities in the US and the NOAA site has nice graphs of temperature and precipitation data over the whole year.
